Mastering Earthwork and Foundation Engineering

Date & Duration : 2 Days

Purpose

Purpose of this course is to build strong capacity in the participants to make correct interpretation of land survey and geotechnical data to minimize unpredictability in estimating strata wise quantities not only for field planning of earthwork, but for making estimates for preparing offer also.

This course is aimed at making participants knowledgeable about soil tests on raw materials of earth work and compacted layers of earth. The course will make the participants capable of taking decisions on type of equipment to be used and technique to be adopted for effective compaction, calculating optimum FGLs and Terracing level and deciding suitable options of earth retention. The course will develop detailed understanding about causes of failures of earthwork and precautions to be taken to avoid settling or sliding of earth, collapse of slopes.

This course is also aimed at developing clear understanding of types of foundations to be used for different types of structures under different founding strata conditions.

Mastering the knowledge of earthwork and design principles of different type of foundations will help in eliminating unpredictable losses and avoiding risk of foundation failures.

Objective

Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to

  • correctly describe land surveys
  • interpret geotechnical investigation reports correctly, and estimate earthwork quantities realistically
  • select proper compaction and earth retention techniques to make earthwork stable
  • explain how foundations are designed and therefore take precautions to create desirable founding conditions on site

Who should Attend

Diploma and Graduate Civil Engineers (from 2 to 10 years of experience) of construction team working on Project sites. Engineers and quantity surveyors working in Tendering section, Billing Section. Engineers involved in foundation design.

Instructor

Mr. Deepak Gokhale

During his professional career spanning over 36 years the faculty worked in companies like Tata Consulting Engineers and Kirloskar Consultants Ltd. He worked as overall head of a team of about 160 engineers of different disciplines like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical engineering and Architecture, working on various ‘concept to commissioning’ projects. Under his leadership, his office has done total plant engineering of automobile manufacturing mega projects, auto ancillaries manufacturing projects, farm equipment manufacturing projects, infrastructure projects, food industries projects, Tyre manufacturing projects.

Working as Discipline Head, he was overall in charge and was responsible for all technical deliverables issued by his profit centre and for providing technical solutions. His work also involved development and training of engineers working in his office. He was responsible for preparing Skill Matrix, identifying and providing technical training to his staff. He worked as specialist engineer on externally funded government projects as Procurement Expert and Contracts Expert.

The faculty has worked as Project Manager (as single point responsibility) on major automobile manufacturing project of Fiat India Automobile Limited, spread on 235 acres of land, at Ranjangaon, near Pune, India. He was responsible for entire plant engineering (concept to commissioning) including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical systems and Architecture. He was also responsible for Project Management and Construction / Installation Supervision of entire project facilities.

The faculty has rare combination of expertise in designing and implementation of big projects.
